Starting in 2017, combining novel breeding techniques and years of Empurau breeding
R&D, BEFR has successfully built a scalable Empurau breeding operation with over
50,000 grown adult fish. To date, the centre has developed a hatchery capable in
producing about 120,000 Empurau fries that were sent over to Batang Ai, Sarawak for
contract farming. There are also Broodstock breeding pond for 1,600 adult Empurau, a
R&D laboratory and a training facility for perspective Empurau farmers. We will soon
be initiating our Empurau rehabilitation programmes.
